Aurora Borealis/Elixir With a K

I thought I'd vamp up the beauty of Elixir With a K (is that even possibel?) by trying one coat of Dollish Aurora Borealis on top.  Kind of a fail!  There is already so much going on in WaK that you detect only a twinkle of the blue to purple flash of AB.  I think it would be best layered on top of a creme, so that is what I will do next time!

Here is a comparison of WaK by itself and WaK with AB.  Which do you prefer?

Lush Lacquer Camo Queen

Hot off the indie bandwagon ~ Lush Lacquer's Camo Queen!  I love any polish that is olive coloured and this is one original olive beauty!  The base consists of green and gold shimmer and is sprinkled with small gold and moss glitter.  There is also gold, copper, brown, and black holo hex glitter. Yum...

I painted two coats on top of Essie Armed and Ready (I only used one coat of A&R, so a proper mani will have to be done with this in the future) and I believe two coats of topcoat.  Or was it one?!

My photo is not totally colour accurate.  With A&R as underwear, the polish came across as greener.  Funnily, the polish on my nails and in the bottle look the same!  Without underwear, the polish is more 'beige'.    I prefer the latter, so I am definitely going to redo this manicure with no or beige underwear polish.  :)

Snap this up before it's gone from Lush Lacquer's Etsy shop!

Elixir Lacquer With a K

This is such a beautiful pink polish; I'm sad that I waited a while to get it, but also happy that I did!  I used two coats of With a K for this mani and it became perfectly opaque, but it was a bit difficult smoothing the edges during cleanup because of the glitter.  Next time, I might use a thin coat of pink underwear polish just so I don't have to 'clean' WaK afterward.

Elixir's website describes WaK as "silver and electric violet holographic micro glitter with violet prismatic hexagon glitter, suspended in a violet jelly base".  The swatch picture on the site appears to be a violet purple, but my polish isn't!  It does lean purple, but it is definitely pink...
As per Wikipedia, below is a voilet colour wheel.  WaK slightly resembles the bottom middle shade, but is clearly pink.

Enough waxing contemplative on the description already!  Let's show you this beautiful polish!  Who cares what colour it is; it is simply divine!

Pretty and Polished Hello Dolly/Misa Go For the Pinks

I just got Pretty and Polished Hello Dolly in the mail last week and had to try it right away.  It consists of fine pink holographic glitter, small purple hexagons, larger white hexagons and a few large pink hexagons.  I didn't even notice that the pink hexagons didn't want to come out and play on my nails until after I finished the mani.  Oh well, it's gorgeous even without them.  :)
I used two coats of Hello Dolly.

Go For the Pinks is such a pretty, sophisticated shade of pink, isn't it?  I bet any of the black and white glitters in the nail-o-sphere would look amazing over it!  This is two coats, but had I not been plagued with nail ridges, I could have gotten away with one coat.

Chelsea is having a sale tomorrow at her Etsy shop; run, don't walk there (but save a Pool Party for me)!

Dollish Polish Cold Winds are Rising

I had such high hopes for Dollish Polish Cold Winds are Rising.  It's a nice shade of grey and has pretty turquoise glitter in various sizes.  However, the polish was fairly thick and (the kicker!) even after three coats of topcoat, it still dried bumpily.  D'oh, as Homer would say!  I can't remember reading about other bloggers having this problem...
I still love the colours, though, so I think I am going to seek out Gelous and try it with that.

It doesn't look too bumpy in the picture, but it is. :(

Have a great rest of the weekend. :)

Lacquistry Oh Yes I Did/Sephora by OPI Happy Earth Day to Me

*gasp*  At a loss for words.

Lacquistry Oh Yes I Did has been a lemming of mine ever since I found out about Lacquistry a few months ago. Luckily, I was able to snatch this beauty during one of Lacquistry's latest sales.  It was then that I learned, sadly, that polishes could 'jump' out of your Etsy shopping cart, even while you were in the middle of paying for them (Bee's Knees, Raspberry Toffee and Golf Socks were my jumpers)!
Enough blabbing.  I used two coats of SOPI Happy Earth Day to Me as the base and I am still undecided if I want to keep this polish.  I love the murky olive colour, but I am not too fond of the shimmer.  Regardless, it worked fine as a dark base for the gorgeous brown, copper and teal holographic glitter in OYID.   I've heard some bloggers say that this is an 'unusual' combination to which I say: rubbish!  Blue, especially teal, and brown are two of my favourite colours and they go wonderfully together.

Such a sexy polish!!  Click on the pic to revel in the beauty!

Here is OYID's underwear:

I'm sure you all know where to find Lacquistry polishes! ;)
Side note: please excuse my clean up.  Looks like I missed a bit in my excitement to post this!

All that Glitters The Gold Rush

I am not a gold person, but I'm happy that I decided to buy All that Glitters The Gold Rush.  The small gold glitter, medium, large and bar black glitter and large gold holo glitter come together so nicely in the bottle and on the fingers that I can imagine myself panning for gold and finding tiny pieces of gold on my hands.
As per usual, I didn't use a base coat (not for the first time I try a glitter, anyway) because I wanted to see the glitter saturation.  Well, for one coat, the polish covers pretty generously, as you'll see.  I had to fish for the large gold holo hexagons for a few fingers, but I also didn't shake the polish beforehand.  I used one coat of Nubar Diamont.
The second picture shows two coats of this polish, if you are a glitter fiend. :)

China Glaze Ray-diant

Nubbins time! ;)  I have a bad habit of peeling off my polish (especially indie glitters saturated with topcoat!) and it leaves my nails weak and peeling near the bottom.  I trim my nails in hopes that they will grow out quickly, but of course, the cycle begins when I put on a pretty new indie glitter polish.  I know, I know, it's a terrible habit, but I would rather have not-so-nice nails than the poison of acetone leach through my skin...

Enough rambling.  Here's my current mani, a non-indie polish! *gasp* :)

Ray-diant has finely-milled light green glitter (possibly gold and pink as well?) peppered with larger multi-coloured glitter.  I didn't think I would like this, but I do.  I love how all the different colours of the larger glitter stand out in low light.  I think Optical Illusion is calling my name now...

All That Glitter Heartbeat City

Here's another polish from the indie polish scene ~ All that Glitters Heartbeat City!  I snapped up a bunch of Kirsten's polishes a while ago and this is my first time wearing one.  I did swatch the polishes each on a finger when I first got them, but I don't count that. :)
Heartbeat City is a glitter bomb in a clear pink jelly base.  The tiniest glitter is silver and blue; the medium holographic glitter is teal and the large holographic hexagons are light pink.  The polish was thick, but fairly easy to apply.  I used three coats, but you could easily do two coats with or without a base colour.  I love the pink and teal combo; I can definitely see myself dipping into this several times (and that says a lot when you have too many polishes).
There are two large hexagons on my index finger and one on my middle finger; can you spot them?  They are buried!

Girly Bits Cosmic Ocean and Shift Happens/Essie Master Plan

I'm not sure how I feel about this mani.  I love the greyish taupe of Master Plan; I love the subtle shimmers of Cosmic Ocean and Shift Happens.  All three together = ?  This photo shows both the reddish shimmer of SH and the blue shimmer of CO, but in daylight, I mainly saw the reddish shimmer.  CO didn't feel like coming out to play unless it was in low light...
This mani is one coat of MP, one of CO, one of SH and then another one of CO.  No topcoat was needed as the polish dried glossily, but I used one coat of Diamont anyway to speed up the drying time.

I can't wait to try the two shimmers on different colours to see what looks best!  I know CO on black is gorgeous!!  In case you missed my last post, here is what Cosmic Ocean and Shift Happens look like.

Nostalgic Lacquer Pizzazz/Haul

Once again, I was so impatient to try out a polish that I neglected to put on underwear! ;)
This time the culprit was Nostalgic Lacquer Pizzazz, a clear base with emerald and chartreuse (not gold!) mini and hex glitter.  I'm not a huge emerald glitter fan, to be honest, but it blends nicely with the chartreuse.  I bet it would look great over black underwear!  It's a unique colour blend in a world saturated with multicoloured, blue, purple and black/white glitter.  This mani is three coats with one coat of Nubar Diamont.

Now it's time for the piece de resistance: my Girly Bits Haul!!  When I first heard about Girly Bits, I became a woman on a mission.  I searched for swatches, scoured her blog and composed my FB pre-order email the night before the sale.  Her polishes are gorgeous and she is Canadian.  Of course I have to support a fellow Canuck!  If you are interested in her polishes (and I think you will be!), check out her blog, which she updates with swatches and sale info.

Time to drool.

 Girly Bits L-R:
Rogue, Into the Night, Purple Potion, Razzle Dazzle, Promise Me, Shift Happens
Denim Diva, Cosmic Ocean, Street Magic, Stormy Skies

Into the Night, Purple Potion, Razzle Dazzle

Shift Happens (the Clarins 230 almost-dupe), Street Magic, Cosmic Ocean

Denim Diva, Stormy Skies, Promise Me, Rogue

Note that I didn't order Rogue; Pam gave it to me.  There was a shipping snafu and even though it was all cleared up, she added this nice touch.  Thank you Pam!!  Now, the only problem is: which to wear first???
